Phil Soltanoff is a theatre artist creating innovative, hybrid, work in which the arts collide in compelling ways. He challenges familiar forms, builds links among seemingly incompatible media and materials, and employs technologies in surprising and human ways. He takes a familiar place, substance or phenomenon—like a sidewalk, plastic or a use of video—and works, plays and wrestles with it until it becomes something unfamiliar and extraordinary.
In 1996 Phil Soltanoff premiered TO
WHOM IT MAY CONCERN which was featured
in The Belgrade International Theatre Festival 1997 (BITEF-31). Phil Soltanoff returned to BITEF in 2008 with MORE OR LESS, INFINITY.
In 1999 Phil Soltanoff joined with performing
artist Hanne Tierney to create five myles, an alternative
performance/exhibition space in Brooklyn, NY. five myles was the recipient of a
2000 OBIE Award Grant.
Phil Soltanoff was nominated for a 2007 Moliere Award for his creation and direction of MORE OR LESS, INFINITY.
